BT Cellnet Extends Its Business GPRS Range
With BlackBerry Wireless Email
BT Cellnet, the UK mobile business of BT
wireless, today announced that Research In Motion's (RIM)
BlackBerry wireless email solution can now be ordered by corporate
customers.
BlackBerry will run over BT Cellnet's GPRS,
enabling users to be always connected to their business email
account and to receive, read and respond to messages, wherever they
are. BlackBerry is developed and manufactured by RIM and has already
proved hugely popular in North America, where it was launched in
1999.
The Enterprise Edition of BlackBerry is the
world's first complete, secure and integrated wireless email service
developed for businesses. It uses unique 'push' technology that
enables users to access emails automatically without the need to
dial in. It also integrates with a user's existing email account so
that there is no need for a second address.
In a deal with BT Cellnet, BlackBerry will run
in the UK on the GPRS data network which runs alongside the existing
GSM network. GPRS will enable BlackBerry users to stay connected to
their corporate network all day.

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: This deal is
significant for RIM because it is the first major deal with a major
service provider. We expect more deals in future.
