The original concept of MVNOs was to encourage competition among mobile network operators, by offering cheaper voice calls. With the increasing commoditisation of voice, MVNOs have been compelled to evolve from their original classical form, and are now as much about brand as about value-for-money voice services. With the advent of 2.5G and 3G data services, MVNOs will come into their own by providing carefully targeted services, to pre-qualified interested customers. MVNOs are forecast to reap over $65 Billion of revenues globally by 2005

Mobileinfo Comments and Advisory: MVNO concept is new in the industry. It seems to make business sense. MVNOs are gradually emerging in Europe and there is a lot of discussion in North America as well.  We may see formalization of these services during the next 12-18 months.
