Provider of integrated
telematics solutions Wireless Car has joined forces with Aether
Systems, Inc. to create a worldwide telematics
infrastructure.
Based in Gothenberg, Sweden, Wireless Car, a joint venture of
Ericsson, the Volvo Group, and Telia, will combine its Universal
Telematics Network (UTN) with Aether fusion, a single-source
foundation for wireless access, deployment and hosting services. The
combination will create a telematics platform that will be capable
of supporting a wide range of wireless networks, standards and
protocols, according to the companies.
UTN supports a wide range of programs and services including
emergency and roadside assistance, navigation guidance, remote
vehicle diagnostics, and fleet management; furthermore, it
automatically integrates and standardizes information from virtually
any telematics equipment platform, network carrier, or
content/service provider.
The integrated telematics service will target vehicle
manufacturers and commercial fleet owners, offering flexibility,
speed-to-market, and widespread connectivity and coverage.
"Through this partnership, we have built a telematics
infrastructure that can support all of today's requirements for
wireless communications, whether it be GSM, CDPD or other wireless
data networks," said Jan Hellåker, president and CEO of
Wireless Car.
