xwave Unveils Mobile Wireless Police Data System
At the Canadian
Association of Chiefs of Police Conference, xwave, a systems
integrator, unveiled OnPatrol, a mobile wireless solution that gives
police officers real-time access to data over a secure network.
"The portability of OnPatrol arms police officers with
real-time instant intelligence from the palm of their hand,
including officer efficiency, and more importantly helping keep our
communities that much safer, " said Ranald McGillis,
vice-President of xwave 's Central Business Unit.
Using Research in Motion's BlackBerry Wireless handhelds running
OnPatrol, police officers are able to receive digital dispatches
from their computer-aided dispatch system, send and receive digital
dispatches, and query national police or motor vehicle databases.
RIM's handhelds operate over both the Bell Mobility and Rogers
AT&T national networks.
Xwave Computer-Aided Dispatch System (CAD)
- Integrates national databases (CPIC, PIRS), radio interfaces,
fully-featured mapping, mobile workstations, E911 ANI/ALI,
inter-jurisdictional messaging, and local information into a
graphical interface
- Facilitates fast, intuitive incident dispatching while
maintaining officer safety and the accuracy of the information
collected

has extensive public safety expertise especially in the Canadian
environment. OnPatrol implementation on Blackberry is an appropriate
subset of the full functionality that police officers have in their
cruisers. No longer would community police officers on patrol be
left unconnected with the dispatch centers. It puts RIM in a very
important territory - a feather in RIM's cap.
