Marconi Helps Italian Bus Company Improve Fleet Efficiency
Italian bus operator
Brescia Transporti SpA has selected Marconi Plc’s digital radio
network to improve service and cut costs.
Under the terms of the agreement, Marconi, along with partner,
Tecnosistemi Group SpA, will plan, build and operate the
installation of Marconi’s Elettra mobile communications solution.
Based on the Terrestrial Trucked Radio (TETRA) standard, the
solution will form the base of Brescia Transporti’s digital radio
network. It also delivers secure, high-quality communications,
regardless of the quality of the signal, and includes full telephone
network interconnection, Internet access and image transmission, the
company said.
The system will enable the bus company to
- Monitor vehicles’ progress along their routes, ensuring that
they keep to their timetables
- Control of passengers loading
- Provide emergency communication
- Perform statistical analysis
- Allocate the appropriate number of buses and drivers to each
route
- Provide passengers with timetables, ticketing and estimated
arrival times
"Our key objective is to provide the most efficient and
functional public transportation service possible," said Dr.
Giorgio Schiffer of Brescia Transporti. Marconi is "providing
us with information and communication systems that will enable us to
manage our drivers and vehicles. It has proven its solution has
faster data refresh rates and a higher level of sophistication than
others on the market," he added.
