Wireless software vendors
Fanlink and Worldzap each have developed wireless services designed
specifically for the mobile savvy sports fan.
Fanlink Debuts Wireless Service at Louisiana Superdome
Over 3,500 New Orleans Saints’ fans seated in the Superdome
were able to use their own cell phone or PDA to order their
fast-food munchies without missing a single play.
To access the service, users had to open an account, either
through Fanlink’s Web page or at a special kiosk at the Superdome,
providing their credit card billing address, cell phone number and
seat location.
For those who wanted their box food ready when they arrived at
the stadium or, say, in the middle of the second quarter, they could
simply preorder it using their wireless device.
In the near future, the company expects to enhance the service
platform to enable fans to purchase and redeem tickets and get game
statistics, out-of-town scores and instant replays.
Based on fan enthusiasm, the company hopes to expand the service
to stadiums and auditoriums across the nation.
