E-business software maker
PeopleSoft has partnered with Research in Motion, maker of the
BlackBerry device, to offer European companies a mobile solution to
enable their mobile workers to update PeopleSoft Internet
applications while on the road.
Using the BlackBerry, mobile workers will be able to execute
secure enterprise transactions, including approving sales deals and
expense reports, over a GPRS network. PeopleSoft applications are
automatically updated upon the completion of each transition.
"The combination of these two industry-leading technologies
will change the way organizations do business," says Ram Gupta,
executive vice president of PeopleSoft Products and Technology.
"Mobile users receive, review and execute enterprise
transactions whether on the road, in the office, or at home —
dramatically accelerating the speed of business."
This solution complements the PeopleSoft Mobile Agent, the
company says, which it claims was the first pure Internet solution
for disconnected access.
By simply selecting an action from a menu on the BlackBerry,
users can remotely access "corporate data and update enterprise
applications that will allow them to significantly increase
productivity through an always on, secure" solution, says
Charles Meyer, director and vice president, Europe at RIM.
The PeopleSoft and RIM solution is currently scheduled for
availability in Europe for early access customers later this year
and should be generally available in the first quarter of 2002.
