Bell Mobility Launches Next
Generation Wireless Service
Bell Mobility has rolled out its next-generation wireless service
in Toronto and will introduce the service nationwide by the end of the
year.
The CDMA 1X RTTwireless service will offer business customers not only
advanced wireless voice and data services, but also improved access to
corporate e-mail and intranets, file sharing, easier access to
contacts and scheduling information, and more efficient access to Web
content and graphics.
According to Bell Mobility, its new 1X network is capable of
supporting wireless data speeds up to 144 Kbps and will deliver
cruising speeds up to 86 Kbps, as much as five times faster than
previously available. This means that customers can wirelessly
download a page of text in three seconds or a digital color photograph
in just five seconds.
In conjunction with the service, the cell phone unit of BCE Inc. is
also launching two 1X-ready devices that combine voice and data
functionality — the Kyocera 2255 and the Samsung SCH-N370 1X.
New services for the consumer as well as the mobile professional
will be introduced throughout the coming year. Consumers can expect to
see a "selection of new, feature-rich services for m-commerce,
entertainment and information," said Pierre Blouin, president and
CEO of Bell Mobility.
To attract the corporate user, Bell Mobility will be offering the
following new business applications:
- MOTIVUS from Veratium, which provides secure real-time access to
the Windows desktop using any Web-enabled device.
- Nextair will offer a host of products and services for the
mobile worker such as an enterprise class dispatch solution, an
Internet-based dispatch application service, and a wireless
extension to existing corporate solutions.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: 3G
deployment is moving forward in Canada. It is worth noting CDMA
gaining ground. Bell Mobility's competitor, Rogers AT& T Wireless,
is taking GSM/GPRS route. The customers will now have a choice.
It is also interesting to see Bell Mobility emphasize its orientation
towards enterprise customers.
