Nissan and DoCoMo to Develop 3G
Telematics Service
NTT DoCoMo has entered into
a partnership with Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. to develop a third
generation telematics system to deliver maps, weather information,
news and entertainment to drivers and their passengers.
DoCoMo’s expertise in advanced wireless technologies will be
combined with Nissan’s vehicle and human-machine interface
technologies, along with its expertise in information services for
automotive applications, to create an in-car information platform
based on DoCoMo’s 3G mobile network.
Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will conduct
a comprehensive feasibility study of various services and work
together to develop new systems and services that can become an
industry standard for widespread use, the companies said.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: DoCoMo
has made significant headway in forging deals with auto makers for
telematics applications. It is a more appropriate platform for these
applications but does require 3G networks.
