Logica and Mapflow Demo First
Wireless MMS Location Services
At the 3GSM World Congress
in Cannes, Logica Mobile Networks and Mapflow demonstrated what they
now claim as the world’s first live demonstration of
location-based services over multimedia messaging services (MMS).
The companies believe location-based services will drive the
adoption of MMS applications such as e-mail, video and audio
download, animated graphics, and e-card and picture exchange.
The MMS location service provides mobile users with animated
color map images that zoom in on a precise location, for example,
the closest McDonald’s or Starbucks. The images are accompanied by
a text message about the location or service.
"MMS is expected to be one of the biggest growth areas in
mobility over the next few years," said Gerry McKenna, CEO of
Logica Mobile Networks.
"Mobile location services provide a means to build customer
loyalty and satisfaction while opening new revenue streams,"
said Thierry Artaud, director of Sales at Mapflow.

Mobileinfo Comments & Advisory: Location-based
MMS services do have a bright future but not in the immediate future.
So, wait out the deployment of more 2.5G and 3G networks.
