Paratek Launches Multi-Beam, E-Scanning Antenna for Wireless GSM, GPRS, and EDGE

Manufacturer of scanning antennas Paratek Microwave, Inc. has introduced the DRWiN (Dynamically Re-configurable Wireless Networks) GSM antenna, which supports GSM, GPRS and EDGE network standards.

"Instead of pursuing the traditional approach of digital beam forming, Paratek has developed the DRWiN antenna which forms beams in the RF domain," explained Ali Pourtaheri, Paratek’s president and CEO.

It uses analog phase shifters to produce multiple simultaneous beams, independently steerable in each time slot. These phase shifters are made from Paratek's patented Parascan materials technology.

Benefits of the DRWiN GSM Antenna

  • Delivers >21 dBi of receive gain and >18 dBi of transmit gain
  • Provides 50 percent greater coverage for a greenfield installation
  • Supports multiple (up to 24) independently steerable narrow beams with selectable beamwidths
  • Increases Carrier-to-Interference Ratio by 10 dB
  • Improves frequency reuse from 9 to 4 and doubles the capacity
  • Lowers cost and risk of integration with existing base stations
