interWAVE Introduces 3G Bandwidth Accelerator

Building on its reputation as an innovator of broadband wireless data networks, interWAVE of Menlo Park, California, has introduced a system that bridges the bandwidth gap and provides secure 2.5G/3G wireless LAN convergence. InterWAVE’s 802.WAVE solution delivers wireless LAN speed with 802.11 technology for GSM networks, offering authentication and roaming capabilities.

The 802.WAVE system is Ideal for GSM operators looking to offer subscribers advanced data applications, said Dr. Priscilla Lu, chairman and CEO of interWAVE. The high-bandwidth solution "provides GSM operators with 802.11 networking speed for high bandwidth-intensive applications such as video streaming and audio streaming, and for downloading large files and attachments."

GSM operators can attach 802.11 LANs seamlessly to their networks to create ‘hot spots’ in airport lounges, hotel lobbies and cafes, offering subscribers all the conveniences of a high-performance wireless service.

InterWAVE’s patented 802.WAVE solution ensures interoperability between the IP and GSM standards to deliver maximum network security, authentication and encryption, the company said.

InterWAVE’s 802.WAVE solution will be available on a trial basis during the second quarter of this year.
