Funk Software and TerraWave Join Forces to Provide Complete Wireless LAN Security Solutions

CAMBRIDGE, MA, July 2002 - Funk Software, the leading commercial developer of RADIUS and wireless LAN (WLAN) security solutions, announced today that its Odyssey™ WLAN access control and security solution based on the IEEE security standard 802.1x, will be carried by TerraWave Solutions, a distributor of WLAN products and custom WLAN solutions.

The companies have signed a distribution agreement enabling TerraWave both to sell Odyssey as a WLAN accessory and to incorporate it into custom WLAN implementations developed for TerraWave customers. In addition to Odyssey, TerraWave will offer Funk Software's complete line of security products, including their market-leading RADIUS server Steel-Belted Radius.

"With the widespread concern over wireless data protection, our customers demand the most robust WLAN security solution we can deliver, and Odyssey is clearly a top-notch choice," said Chris Marco, president of TerraWave Solutions. "Not only does it provide powerful privacy safeguards, but it works with a wide variety of 802.1x wireless adapter cards and access points. This unsurpassed multi-vendor interoperability gives us a non-proprietary solution that we can use for installations with any manufacturer's equipment or even mixed client devices."

"TerraWave is one of the few companies in the channel that focuses exclusively on wireless networking, so their decision to offer Odyssey for WLAN security gives us the opportunity to reach a critical mass of customers in a very efficient manner," said Joe Ryan, vice president of Funk Software. "With industry estimates that WLAN-related purchases will jump to $3 billion this year and more than $5.6 billion by 2005, having TerraWave as our strategic partner positions us to take full advantage of the expected market growth."

Odyssey is a complete wireless LAN access control and security solution based on the IEEE security standard 802.1x. It provides state-of-the-art security and can be easily and widely deployed across an enterprise network. Components include Odyssey Client, a universal 802.1x software client that lets users securely connect over a wireless link; and Odyssey Server, a RADIUS server specially designed to handle wireless LAN access.

Odyssey's authentication and connection capabilities ensure that only authorized users can connect to the WLAN, that connection credentials will not be compromised, and that data privacy is maintained. The system supports a wide variety of WLAN security protocols, including the innovative EAP-TTLS protocol, which provides unsurpassed security, but is significantly easier to manage than other security methods. Odyssey also supports EAP-TLS, the 802.1x security protocol included in Windows XP, and EAP-Cisco Wireless (a.k.a. LEAP), Cisco's proprietary security protocol.

Odyssey runs on multiple Windows platforms and is compatible in a wide variety of WLAN environments.
TerraWave will also be offering Funk Software's leading RADIUS server Steel-Belted Radius®, which lets enterprise network managers integrate remote access and WLAN user management and security at a single console, and stand-alone copies of Odyssey Client.
